Camberwell Green URC, Grove Lane

Our follow-up meeting with immediate neighbours was held on 12th June 2008. Comments were positive, and local residents felt we had listened to their concerns and taken their views into account. Residents offered additional feedback through the Grove Lane Residents' Association Chair, Ann Warby. We continue to progress the design in the light of these most recent comments.

All going well, we hope to submit the project for Planning Approval some time in mid-July.

We hope to hold a second 'open' meeting to showcase the final designs, prior to their submission, and receiv any additional comments. This is likely to be in early July. A date will be emailed to all those who have signed up for updates when the time is set. This is likely to be a weekday evening between 6pm and 9pm.

Wyatt MacLaren have set up a temporary site office in the lower-ground floor of the Church. If the gates are open, the likelihood is that we are in residence. Please come down the ramp and visit us if you wish to make further comments in person.

If you wish to sign up for updates, please email us here.

THE DESIGN

The image bottom right shows the emerging proposal. This has developed from the 'Option 1' shown at the initial Consultation Day:

Current Proposal:
Residential properties: 10x three-bedroom maisonnettes or five new 5 metre wide 4-bed Georgian Townhouses on Grove Lane, with reasonable front gardens and rear yard space. A three-storey church and community building behind, on Love Walk.

NOTES:
- Detailed design work is continuing on the residnetial facades to Grove Lane. We are conscious of the very great importance of tearing this elevation with care and skill.
- No dedicated parking spaces would be provided by the current design. This is in line with current Southwark Policy. We are investigating car-share bays. - Church is not as prominent as currently, but retains visibility and presence on Grove Lane via long lawn /garden /parking area, and corner 'tower' or 'campanile'.
- Church footprint is minimised to allow 'views around' the building, as per initial residents' comments.
- Internal layout and accommodation of the Church(two large halls on top and bottom floors, and meeting rooms 'sandwiched' between) is under review after comments from existing and potential user groups.
- Materials choices and detail elevation studies are in development and will be available for comment at the next public presentation.
