Alex Freemantle designed an extension to this Cotswold cottage in 2006. The client now wants a further extension in the rear garden as a home office. Unusually the owner of the neighbouring property is also interested in a similar extension and so the current proposed scheme is for a small barn like building that straddles the boundary between the 2 properties and has an internal party wall to divide one from the other. This has enabled the use of a traditional form with a steeply pitched roof in accordance with the local Conservation Area guidance.
The shared barn like building is linked back to the main houses by a glazed in pergola creating an enclosed porch and allowing the form of the new extension to be visually separate from the existing building. It is proposed to use traditional materials such as stone and timber to marry up with the existing buildings.
The project achieved Planing Permission in summer 2010.
