Dulwich Grove United Reformed Church

East Dulwich United Reformed Church is a Grade II listed building constructed 127 years ago. It began life as the home of the Dulwich Grove Congregational Church before the formation of the denomination in 1972.

The building has a history of community involvement, as following repair after being damaged in the war by a direct hit of a fire bomb, the building had a dual purpose as both a community and church building, before reverting back to a primarily church building. Although there are still many community groups that use the facilities.

Wyatt Maclaren initially conducted a feasibility report investigating the possibilities of future development of the church buildings, ranging from addressing compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act, to the conversion and refurbishment of the premises with the addition of new facilities.

DDA compliance was deemed to have more precedence, which constituted providing wheelchair access and W.C provisions up to part M standards to the buildings.

With the most logical placing for the new disabled W.C being in the hall, Wyatt Maclaren sought as modest an approach as possible to connect the outside with the inside, and the Sanctuary with the Hall, for easy passage for persons with disabilities. This consisted of creating gradual sloped approaches to the areas in question.
