Our practice is currently working on two self-build conversion projects at either end of the country- a Victorian Warehouse in Edinburgh, and a stone horseshoe barn in Newlyn, Cornwall.

Camberwell URC proceeds with Baylight Properties.

We are pleased that after an exciting bidding process with several excellent prospective partners, Camberwell URC development site will be proceeding with Baylight Properties and Shaw Building Group Ltd.

Baylight and Shaw are no strangers to high-quality builds, with the Vasall Road development by Tony Fretton under their belts, (the project received several design awards when completed several years ago) and Walmer Road housing in Holland Park designed by Peter Salter and on site at the moment.

We are delighted to be working with Baylight and Shaw. They will take over all responsibility for the remaining design on the housing, whilst Wyatt MacLaren continue our role as Church Architect on a Design & Build agreement.

Congratulations to Alex Freemantle, now of this office, on the success of Water Hall Primary School at the RIBA Awards 2010.

We are also delighted to announce that Water Hall Primary School was a winner in the ‘Inspiring Design’ award category at the BCSE Industry Awards 2009, the highlight of this year’s National School Environments Week. This year the quality of submissions was extremely high with 170 entries across the 13 categories.

Alex Freemantle’s scheme for Water Hall Primary School saw off entries from around the UK to recieve this, the first award of the night.

Alex Freemantle’s scheme for Water Hall Primary School saw off entries from around the UK to recieve this, the first award of the night.

“The Judges thought this was an outstanding example of a new primary school which met the needs of its community and delivered a beautiful, sustainable building. The central courtyard is particularly effective and creates a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Most importantly, the building reflects the school’s ethos and is much loved by those who use it.”

New Escape stair in Grade 1 Listed coaching yard, Ely.

The existing timber staircase was rotting and too steep for comfort. We obtained consent for a new steel and aluminium staircase largely made from a kit-of-parts.

We were commissioned to reconfigure and refinish the 1950’s church hall in E 14 on a limited budget. The plain ceiling and patterned floor and stage back are all new. The work is due for completion in the autumn of 2006.

This new 1987 building for a Bengali Women’s group on the lower floors has 3 floors of sheltered housing above it. It is adjacent to listed grade 1 house in the Spitalfields conservation area and was Wyatt MacLaren’s first major commission.

A £3.0 M development of an old church hall site in E3 provided a large public hall on the ground floor and a 40 child nursery in a ground floor wing. The three upper floors of small flats for sale by the D&B contractor Telford Homes made the project financially feasible.
